Paul's Pedigree

Change is one of life’s few certainties. Throughout my journey, I’ve experienced both successes and setbacks, learning invaluable lessons along the way. After a decade in business, I pursued an MBA at Manchester Business School and furthered my studies in the USA, immersing myself in the intricacies of retail. In 2003, I discovered the transformative power of executive coaching, which led me to study coaching, NLP, and psychology to provide the most impactful guidance possible.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from some of the world’s most respected thought leaders—Sir John Whitmore, Marshall Goldsmith, Nancy Kline, Dr. Carol Dweck, and Tony Robbins, among others. Their insights helped shape my own coaching philosophy, rooted in the belief that continuous learning and personal growth are essential in a world that never stops evolving.

Is there another level for you and your business?

The future will demand more from all of us, as people will likely experience multiple careers and new definitions of success throughout their lives. To become better leaders. A good coach can accelerate that journey, condensing years of learning into weeks, days, or even hours. My goal is to help you unlock your potential quickly and meaningfully, ensuring that both you and your business thrive in the ever-changing world.

At my professional work

I help people and businesses transform their performance through delivering sustainable, measurable improvement.
With clients across the world, my management consultancy provides Executive Coaching and Business Consultancy including ESG, the Circular Economy and Mergers and Acquisitions (up to £100M).

In recent years as a CEO, I managed the sale and acquisition for £82.5m of a retail company based in London on behalf of the owner.

At home

Married to Kath, granddaughter of a Yorkshire coal miner. We have two dogs who I can be seen running with daily, Charlie and Sidney. We love living in Bilton, Harrogate where we settled in January 2006. We have two very grown up children, 6 grandchildren and now a great grandchild.

I grew up in a corner shop which my mother ran, whilst my dad worked as a “progress chaser” at Hawker Siddeley (aerospace).

I confess to having spent much of my formative years in Lancashire but can honestly say I have now been in Yorkshire for past thirty years and so hope to be considered a local. However, I have been known to watch reruns of Peter Kay to remind me of a happy past, on which a prosperous present and future is being built!

At play

I believe that everything we do should bring us joy; that’s how we truly excel. I enjoy my work, whether it’s in business or community action, and this passion often spills over into my free time.

I cherish moments spent with my wife and our dogs in our “wild” garden, where I play the role of a dedicated gardener—doing what I’m told! Since moving here in 2006, we’ve maintained an organic garden, avoiding chemicals entirely. We focus on planting native flowering species that provide nourishment throughout the year, supporting local wildlife, including the half-dozen bee hives we keep.

You can often find me running with the dogs in Nidd Gorge and the surrounding areas, appreciating the beautiful outdoors where we’re fortunate to live.

In politics

I’ve served as a local councillor for ten years, beginning at Harrogate Borough Council. In 2017, I was elected to North Yorkshire County Council during our campaign against the relief road.

I was appointed as the first-ever Climate Change Champion, advocating for an environmentally friendly approach in all council activities to ensure sustainability.

I make it a priority to attend all fortnightly Executive meetings in Northallerton, staying actively engaged with council affairs.

I am the sole councillor representing North Yorkshire on the Food for the Future (Fix our Food) Initiative in collaboration with the University of York. Additionally, I represent North Yorkshire at Transport for the North and chair the Scrutiny Committee.

If you were to ask about my accomplishments, I would highlight:

  • Driving the Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss Agenda to make addressing climate change mitigation business as usual for the council. In 2017, the council had no policy on this, but by 2024, we have updated the strategy for the second time.
  • Becoming the first climate change Champion at North Yorkshire and paving the way for Change.
  • Promoting better nutrition to support the health and well being of North Yorkshire Residents.
  • Leading the successful campaign against the Relief Road across the Nidd.
  • Supporting residents on Knox Lane in their fight against an inappropriate development, which was ultimately refused planning permission.
  • Recently standing as an independent candidate in the Mayoral election for York & North Yorkshire, which inspired me to pursue candidacy for Member of Parliament.
